Case Study 1
As a graphic designer, the single greatest challenge one can face is creating a portfolio. The primary aim is to showcase my work and demonstrate suitability for a design studio I feel like I would be a good fit to integrate and further grow as a professional. Despite having already accumulated years of experience in the print industry, crafting my first portfolio booklet presented a number of unique challenges.
A 3 panel A5 folder was identified as the best format to store both the A5 portfolio booklet and the similarly sized CV / resume. Keeping these items together was done through the use of an interlocking slot on the folder.
Building on the overall themes of the folder and booklet, additional touches were deemed necessary. An innovative approach was taken by creating a set of bespoke chocolates, each uniquely flavored to correspond with the five sections stored within the booklet:
Red: Pop Rocks
Yellow: Ginger
Green: Mint
Blue: Coconut
Purple: Rice Krispies
Gold foil was employed to wrap each chocolate, featuring branding that complemented the overall portfolio aesthetic.
The chocolates were stored in a case alongside the folder/booklet. Transparent material, folded and glued along the side of the portfolio case, served to visually highlight the inclusion of the chocolates.
To further stimulate conversation and generate talking points, select quotes from well-known authors and artists were strategically incorporated.
This comprehensive approach resulted in a portfolio that not only showcased design prowess but also engaged potential employers in a memorable and unique way. The combination of thoughtful design elements and thematic cohesion elevated the portfolio experience beyond conventional expectations.
